Kedarnath, Uttarakhand – 2 May 2025:
The sacred portals of Kedarnath Dham, one of the most revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites in India, opened for devotees at 6:00 AM on May 2, 2025, amid Vedic chants, rituals, and an air of spiritual fervour. The Kapat (doors) of the ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva will remain open for six months, allowing lakhs of pilgrims from across the globe to offer their prayers in the Himalayan abode.

Doli Arrives After a Sacred Journey from Ukhimath
The spiritual journey began on April 29, when the holy Doli (palanquin) of Lord Kedarnath was ceremoniously carried from Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, accompanied by hundreds of devotees, priests, and temple authorities. The three-day pilgrimage passed through Guptkashi, Phata, and Gaurikund and finally reached the Kedarnath Temple on May 1, where final preparations for the Kapat-opening ceremony were completed.
Amid chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and the sound of conch shells and traditional instruments, the sacred Doli was welcomed with immense devotion. Floral decorations, sacred bells, and the chanting of Shiv mantras transformed the Kedarnath valley into a divine spectacle.
Grand Opening Ceremony at Kedarnath Temple

On the morning of May 2, under the guidance of temple priests and the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, the Kapat of Kedarnath Dham was opened at the auspicious hour of 6:00 AM. Thousands of pilgrims braved the early morning chill to witness the divine moment. The temple, situated at an altitude of over 11,700 feet in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, witnessed a surge of spiritual energy as the idol of Lord Kedarnath was reinstalled for public worship.
The Kedarnath Yatra 2025 officially commences with this opening and will continue until October or November, depending on the Diwali date, after which the temple will close for the winter months.
A Message to Devotees and Pilgrims
Authorities have urged all pilgrims to register on the Char Dham Yatra portal, maintain proper health precautions due to high altitude, and respect ecological norms. With better infrastructure, medical facilities, and improved roads, the Kedarnath Dham pilgrimage is expected to see record footfall this year.
